Here at FS Medical Technology, we offer a wide variety of construction and special projects services to fit your needs. We do everything from Interim Life Safety Measures planning to inspections, specification reviews, and design planning to coordinating installations and sizing surveys.
Before being placed into service, as well as following a breach in the medical gas pipeline, medical gas and vacuum systems must be inspected to ensure safe and proper operation. FSMT performs medical gas verification studies to document, evaluate and prepare recommendations in order that health care facilities may be in compliance with the National Fire Protection Association’s guidelines on medical gas and vacuum systems as outlined in their publication NFPA 99C: “Gas and Vacuum Systems.”
California regulations require that medical gas verifiers be recognized by the state as qualified to inspect medical gas and vacuum systems. In addition, hospitals are required by the state health and safety code to have “competent and adequate inspection during construction or alteration.”
The company’s verification program includes:
Outlet/inlet inspection for flow, concentration, purity, cross connection, pressure, proper seating, leakage, color code, and location.
Inspection of all pressure gauges.
Ultrasonic testing of zone valves and inspection for leaks, labeling, location and operation.
Inspection and testing of area alarms for leaks, labeling, audible and visual function, and alarm set points.
Plan review services assist clients evaluate preliminary designs to establish sizing, placement and compliance with NFPA 99 requirements. Particular attention can be focused at tie-ins to existing services and the often unique aspects of renovation projects. FSMT engineers understand medical gas construction requirements and can assist clients with limited experience in pneumatic design.
Plan specification review services are available to assist clients evaluate proper equipment recommendations by medical gas manufacturers. Eliminating outdated specifications reduces contention between trades and ensures specifications meet current NFPA requirements
Installation and Design Training:
FSMT conducts training programs for professional engineers, mechanical contractors and facility planners covering design, maintenance and construction topics. These classes e also available to professional societies and engineering consultants.
FS Medical Technology senior engineers help facility owners plan new installations, remodels, replacements and upgrades of medical gas equipment. Outside contractor trades including plumbing and electrical are coordinated for turnkey project completion. If OSHPD approval is required, FSMT provides architectural consultants to prepare required drawings and specifications. Pre-construction meetings with OSHPD staff minimize the potential of project delays.
During construction activities, FSMT verifiers provide quality assurance reviews of installer work and brazing techniques. These inspections often identify items which can be corrected prior to wall closing allowing reduced corrective action costs.
